For a film version of Russo's novel, it would be difficult to imagine the assembling of a finer cast for the quirky, eccentric characters of "Empire Falls." The unassuming and selfless Miles Roby is brilliantly performed by Ed Harris. ![]() The story resonated with American readers, and Russo was awarded the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for fiction. We learn of Miles' love that he felt for his deceased mother and the love that he feels for his young daughter. ![]() At the heart of the story is the character of Miles Roby, the proprietor of a local grill. Richard Russo's 483-page novel offers a multi-faceted story and a fascinating array of characters in a small town in Maine who are burdened by the weight of the past. ![]()

![]() ![]() I would have given it 5-stars but the book was left unfinished and the follow-up did not spark interest. I wanted to hate it all during the denouement, but I couldn’t deny the truth, and in that, I felt compelled to finish what I started regardless of my rancor. This book however will leave you reeling.literally reeling. Of course romance novels have pushed the edge of what women consider appealing in dominant male characters. What if, at this moment, everything we hide is transparent for the world to see?Īt first I thought it odd to give a “warning” at the end of the book summary. I have moved my 4-Star rating to 5-Stars. Katie is spoiled and entitled and Scott is a shortsighted enabling ass. I didn't care for either of these characters in the slightest. ![]() ![]() He works out an elaborate plan to divorce her and cause her to hit rock bottom so she'll have the surgery. So her husband, Scott, hatches a plan to take her to the moon where the only doctor who performs the brain implant surgery for her condition works. The only other option is surgical impntation of a chip in her brain, which she's afraid of and so refuses. Katie is supposedly bipolar, and along with the common occurrence of her going off her meds when she feels well, even when she does take them they're not entirely effective. I received an ARC of this book from the Publisher, via Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review. ![]() ![]() ![]() While the text itself is sufficient to communicate the book’s identified problem and recommended solution, the questions aid both the casual reader and the serious practitioner in more fully assimilating the message. Ideal for both personal reflection as well as group study, each of the book’s nine chapters begins with some preliminary thought-provoking questions and ends with a set of reflection questions and exercises. ![]() ![]() In communicating practical and tested insights on the subject, authors Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert divide their book into three sections, first providing foundational concepts, then adding general principles, and concluding with practical strategies to provide assistance in a truly beneficial manner. It was great to see all these characters come alive and the author, Anna James, does a brilliant job at portraying how those characters would speak and act if another person was suddenly part of their story. ![]() This book shows a girl who has a love of books (which is enough on the first basis to draw me in). Through learning about bookwandering and her Grandparents experiences with it, will Tilly be able to find out what truly happened to her mother all those years ago ? and she is not the only one in her family to do this. This is through the magic of bookwandering that Tilly holds. One day Tilly’s favourite book characters appear in the shop and discovers that she can not only converse with them, but can also travel into their worlds. Tilly’s favourite books, especially, are Alices Adventures in Wonderland and Anne if Green Gables. She has lived in the bookshop ever since her mother suddenly disappeared with no idea as to where she went or why. ![]() This book features 11 year old Tilly, who lives with her Grandparents in their bookshop called Pages & Co. ![]() This was so cute !!
